New scheme to deliver relief supplies safely

President Chandrika Kumaratunga chaired a meeting of political party leaders this morning. It was decided at this assembly to device a method to streamline the distribution of relief supplies. The party leaders agreed that the supplies should reach their destination without hindrance and be delivered to the people who are in actual need of relief.

It has been established that people in certain areas have had adequate supplies, while some others have been left out. It was decided by the assembly to regulate distribution by introducing a formal scheme of delivery and receipt.

All donors who wish to help have been requested to contact their local Divisional Secretariats or Kachcheris. Coordinating Officers at the Divisional Secretariats or the District Secretariat have been instructed to assist all donors and ensure the safe delivery of their relief supplies.
