Shell donates towards tsunami relief

The Shell Group has pledged a sum of 50 million Rupees for disaster relief in Sri Lanka. The Country Chairman Mr. Hassan Madani yesterday [10^th January] called on President Chandrika Kumaratunga and handed in a cheque for Rs 25 million as a preliminary donation for immediate relief, which will be credited to the President's Disaster Relief Fund. 

The Shell Group is to donate the balance sum of Rs. 25 million to be utilized for long term development projects in affected areas. The Shell Group will in collaboration with the Centre for National Operations (CNO) identify projects that they could best contribute to. 

The President expressed her gratitude to the Chairman and Shell’s Corporate Affairs Director Dr. Mahesha Ranasoma for their initial assistance of 200 storage tanks for of drinking-water in disaster stricken areas. 

This donation is part of Shell Group’s overall commitment of US$ 3 to the tsunami affected countries in the region.
