Bangladesh sent emergency relief and rescue
missions to Sri Lanka following the December 26 tsunami, which devastated
most the southern and eastern coastal areas of the island.
The Bangladesh Air Force and Navy transported more than 50 tons of relief
supplies including medicines, dry rations, clothes, drinking water, tents
and tube wells along with medical and engineering teams of the Bangladesh
armed forces. Bangladesh also sent five water purification plants and a Bell
212 helicopter.
