Travel Advisory updated
[February 18, 2005 - 10.00 GMT]

The Japanese Foreign Ministry has updated the Travel Advisory it issued for Sri Lanka with effect from February 2005, declaring the cautionary advice as null and no longer applicable.

Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar took up the matter of removing the travel advice with the Japanese Senior Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Shuzen Tanigawa during his visit to Sri Lanka recently.

The travel advice referring to a possible prevalence of disease and unsanitary conditions in certain parts of the country was issued as a result of the tidal waves that devastated the island in December.
