Rival LTTE gunfire kills one more LTTE cadre and injures another

(SL Army Website) Gunfire of an LTTE rival member killed another LTTE cadre of the LTTE (Karuna) faction and injured another LTTE man while they were in the general area of Karapola in Welikanda on 20 February 2005 around 11.30 a.m.


The deceased, Villiyasinham Manoharan (37) of No 47, Karapola, Muthugala, was reportedly riding from Sevanpitiya towards Muthugala on a motorbike (EPHO 0122) with his friend, Vinayagamurthy Jeganadan (37) alias Sudaharan when the LTTE gunman from its Wanni faction, identified as Raju waylaid them and indiscriminately opened fire at them.

According to the injured, Vinayagamurthy Jeganadan, his slain colleague, Villiyasinham Manoharan upon receipt of T - 56 gunshot injuries, died on the spot after profuse bleeding.

The assassins immediately fled the area after firing, according to the injured LTTE cadre.

The injured LTTE cadre, who identified the assailant was evacuated initially to the Welikanda hospital by villagers in the area and later on transferred to the Polonnaruwa hospital as his condition grew worse.

The Police have recovered 12 empty T-56 cartridges form the location of the crime.

The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) was to be informed.

The Welikanda Police are conducting investigations.
