Presidential Commission to inquire into attacks on LTTE
[March 2, 2005 - 05.00 GMT] 

President Chandrika Kumaratunga yesterday [1st March] appointed a special Commission to inquire into and report on the recent attacks on LTTE cadres in the Batticaloa and Ampara districts.

The President has directed the Commission to investigate if any group of terrorists or any other force in the Eastern Province is behind these attacks.

The Special Commission comprising two High Court Judges is tasked with investigating the circumstances and motives if any, behind these attacks. The commission will submit its report to the President within one month from date of commencement of hearing.
