Kadirgamar meets Jack Straw in London

Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar met with the British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Jack Straw in London yesterday. 

During the meeting at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Kadirgamar thanked the British government and public for their assistance and support during the recent tragedy. He was especially appreciative of the British government’s 10 year moratorium on Sri Lanka’s debt payments.  

The two Ministers discussed the issue of the LTTE’s alleged possession of light aircraft. Secretary of State Straw said he was aware of the dangers of unauthorized personnel owning aircraft. 

On the issue of repatriation of failed asylum seekersthe British Minister conceded the repatriation process is time consuming. However he assured the Home Office would address Sri Lanka’s concerns and that a British Home Office delegation would be visiting Colombo soon.
