Tuesday April 5th - Day of National Mourning
[April 4, 2005 - 11.30 GMT]

The Government has declared tomorrow Tuesday 5th April a day of national mourning as a matter of respect and homage for the late Pope John Paul II. All functions scheduled for this date will not take place and the national flag will be flown at half mast at all State and private buildings.

Sri Lanka will be represented at the funeral service of the late Pontiff by a three-member delegation led by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse, Christian Affairs Minister Milroy Fernando and a senior representative of the Opposition.
