Sri Lankan film at Cannes

Sri Lankan filmmaker Vimukthi Jayasundara’s “Sulanga Enu Pinisa” (Forsaken Land) is just the second Sri Lankan film to compete at the world renowned Cannes International Film Festival in France, May 11-22, 2005. The first was veteran filmmaker Lester James Peries’ “Rekhawa” in 1957.

Mr. Jayasundara joins the rare group of filmmakers who were selected to the Cannes Film Festival on their debut feature films. Others include Satyajit Ray, Ingmar Bergman, Francois Truffaut, Lester James Peries, Shaji. N. Karun and Samira Makhmalbaf.
