EU Deputy Head calls on President

Vice President of the European Commission Margot Wallstrom called on President Chandrika Kumaratunga yesterday. Ms. Wallstrom who had visited the tsunami-affected areas in the Southern District told the President that she was impressed with the progress of the relief and reconstruction efforts of the Government, especially in the area of food distribution. 

President Kumaratunga briefed Vice President Wallstrom on the measures taken by the Sri Lankan Government to identify and allocate land for the provision of permanent housing to the affected people and on the establishment of the Post Tsunami Operational Management Structure (P-TOMS).

Ms. Wallstrom felicitated the President on her visionary and courageous step in establishing the P-TOMS, and assured Sri Lanka of the continued commitment of the European Commission towards the rehabilitation of tsunami-affected and to the success of the Peace Process.
