Headquarters Colombo
July 18,
2005
Dear Mr.
Chandra Fernando,
I
observe you have adopted several positive measures to curb the rising
wave of organized crime in the country.
From
1994 as Minister of Defence I initiated several programmes to curb the
spread of crime. I am glad to note that you have played a very
constructive role since you assumed duties as Inspector General of
Police. During the short period of your tenure as the Inspector General
your action to resolve certain matters that remained in abeyance for
years is commendable.
The
effectiveness of your plan to curb the spread of crime and the service
rendered by you and your staff under the direction of the Minister of
Public Security, Law & Order deserve high praise. I am convinced the
entire citizenry that values law and order is appreciative of your
services.
I assure
you that my government is fully committed to this cause and will provide
you all assistance necessary to continue your good work.
I wish
you and your staff the strength and courage to continue your programme.
Signed
Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga
