CBK launched

[August 1, 2005 - 9.30 GMT]

An English language biography of President Chandrika Kumaratunga was launched on Friday 29th August exactly a month after her 60th birthday. The impressive launch ceremony was held on the lawn of the British built Akland House, refurbished and renamed ‘Visumpaya’ and was witnessed by a group of VIP invitees.

The author Graeme H Wilson speaking with a pleasant and comprehensible Scottish accent said “ I have he had been blessed during my career and was able to write the biographies of many important people but producing CBK has been something else, it was an emotional journey that has marked me indelibly.”

In the Preface to the book Wilson quotes an unnamed prominent figure from one of Sri Lanka’s major opposition parties as saying, “I cannot bring myself to agree with her politically. But if you are asking me about CBK as a human being, that is another thing. She is one of the most remarkable people I have ever come across, a woman who has overcome extreme personal adversity and is still a good person, with a good heart”.

All proceeds from the sale of the biography will be donated to the Tsunami Relief Fund in Sri Lanka.
