Flags at half mast as a mark of respect for King Fahd

[August 3, 2005 - 4.00 GMT]

As a mark of respect to His Majesty Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, the King of Saudi Arabia who passed away on Monday, the Government has directed that the National Flag be flown at half mast at all State buildings today [Wednesday 3rd August].

Private organizations have also been requested to fly the National flag at half mast. The public is requested to refrain from holding events of a celebratory nature today.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse left for Saudi Arabia yesterday as the special representative of President Chandrika Kumaratunga to pay his respects and those of the people of Sri Lanka.
