Kadirgamar was a friend - Colin Powell
[August 23, 2005 - 10.00 GMT]
Former US
Secretary of State Colin Powell in a message written in the Book of
Condolence on the assassination of Sri
Lanka’s late Foreign Minister Lakshman
Kadirgamar wrote,
“I come to pay my respects to the memory
of a great man and a great patriot of Sri Lanka, Hon. Lakshman
Kadirgamar, who was also my friend.
He took risks in the cause of obtaining
peace in his beloved country. I hope that all parties will come
together, maintain the ceasefire, deplore violence and redouble their
efforts for peace and reconciliation. This would be the greatest tribute
we could pay him.
I extend heartfelt condolences to his
family and to all Sri Lankans who grieve for him.”
Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar was shot dead
Friday August 12, 2005. The Book of Condolence is maintained at the Sri
Lankan Embassy in Washington D.C.
