“The
engagement of armed groups for peace should not be done at the expense
of the capability for democratic governance of a sovereign State”
President Chandrika Kumaratunga yesterday appealed to the Nations of the
World to sanction groups that undermine States that respect
internationally accepted laws and norms. Speaking yesterday at the ‘2005
World Summit’ or the High Level Plenary Meeting of UN General Assembly
in New York Kumaratunga said “We must act together as a UN system to
support and strengthen States that are addressing terrorist challenges
comprehensively. This would form an essential part of the mission of the
UN for the next decade.
