President Chandrika Kumaratunga repeated her call to the World Community
to exert pressure on the LTTE to respect democratic norms in her address
to the 60th Session of the UN General Assembly on Saturday 17th
September.
Kumaratunga said “A peace process cannot, and does not operate in a
vacuum….. Peace should include commitment and good conduct of all
parties to a conflict”. She appealed to the world body “Let us resolve
to commit ourselves collectively on this solemn occasion of the 60th
Anniversary of our Organization to act together in the interest of
humankind in order that we strive to eliminate the three scourges of
poverty, disease and terrorism” .
