President back in the Island after UNGA

President Chandrika Kumaratunga has returned to the Island after her visit to the United States of America. During her stay in New York she addressed the 2005 World Summit, the largest gathering of world leaders in history, the 60th session of the UN General Assembly and the prestigious Asia Society. 

Several bilateral meetings were held on the sidelines of the General Assembly. Among the world leaders who met her in New York for one to one talks were His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, Jose Manuel Barroso, President of the EU Commission, Ms. Ann M Veneman the Executive Director of UNICEF, Prime Minister of Norway Kjell Magne Bondevik and  UNDP Administrator Kemal Dervis. 

President Kumaratunga also addressed a meeting of the Global Consortium on Tsunami Recovery, chaired by the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy former President Bill Clinton, held at the World Bank in Washington D.C.
