President Rajapaksa meets Norwegian Peace Envoy Erik Solheim

President Mahinda Rajapaksa had discussions today (24) with Mr. Erik Solheim, Norwegian Special Peace Envoy who is also the Minister of International Development of Norway, regarding the possibility of resuming negotiations with the LTTE and bringing an end to the current violence in the country.

At the initial round of discussions the President was accompanied by the Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, the Senior Advisor on Peace to the President Dr. Jayantha Dhanapala, Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs H. M. P. S. Palihakkara, Secretary General of the Government Peace Secretariat John Gunaratne and Shanuka Jayasekera of the Peace Secretariat.

The Norwegian participants were Minister Erik Solheim, Hans Brattskar, Norwegian Ambassador in Sri Lanka, Executive Officers Odd Naustdal and Sandre Bjotvedt, and Tom Knappskerg, Second Secretary of the Norwegian Embassy.

Following these discussions President Rajapaksa and Mr. Erik Solheim had a lengthy and cordial discussion on current developments vis-à-vis the peace process and the Ceasefire Agreement, the President's Media Office said.
