New peace envoy due today

Norway’s new peace envoy will make his first visit to Sri Lanka today, since his appointment was announced last month.

According to the Norwegian Embassy Jon Hanssen-Bauer is scheduled to meet President Mahinda Rajapaksa, government leaders, and the SLMM during his four-day visit here.

He is to travel to Kilinochchi on Wednesday (5th) to hold talks with the LTTE leadership.

Meanwhile, former peace envoy Erick Solhiem is also due in Colombo on Thursday in a bid to finalize matters ahead of the second round of talks scheduled for later in the month in Geneva, the Embassy said.
