LTTE metes out brutal punishments to those who do not toe the line [Friday, May 26, 2006 - 11.30 GMT]

Last Saturday (May 20) a 12 year old child was grabbed from his grandmother’s house in Eravur, where he was seeking refuge, taken outside and shot to death. He had refused to join the LTTE baby brigade.

According to reports the child S. Sathyan a student of Valaichenai Hindu College had been forced to join the LTTE on several occasion but had refused LTTE orders, escaped and gone into hiding in his grandmother’s house.

The Ministry of Defence website reports civilians in the area as saying the LTTE had intensified its conscription of child soldiers and unwilling civilians to compensate for the depleting support it was receiving from the people in the area.

Yesterday (May 25) a married couple was reportedly executed publicly by the LTTE pistol gang in the Mullaitivu town for not attending the compulsory civilian military training program held a few days ago in an LTTE camp.

It has been further reported that all civilians other than children under six years of age, must undergo military training conducted by the LTTE.
