Boost for SMEs [Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 9.00 GMT]

The South Asia Enterprise Development Facility (SEDF) a Multi Donor Technical Assistance Programme was launched with the collaboration of the International Finance Cooperation (IFC), a private sector arm of the World Bank Group recently.

This Assistance Programme will help develop financial assistance to Sri Lanka’s Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) sector.

The objective of the IFC is to accelerate the growth rate of the SME sector by enhancing access to finance and establishing an environment conducive to the development of SMEs through the SEDF programme.

According to officials, this facility will also complement the development of an effective business support infrastructure already started by the Governments and other bilateral and multilateral agencies.  The IFC has initially selected four private Banks in Sri Lanka to support the SME sector.
