Claymore mine attack close to Colombo injures two [Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - 10.45 GMT]

A claymore mine planted along a road from Mahabage Junction to Ragama in Welisara, about 11 km from Colombo, near a naval camp, exploded injuring two civilians, a bus driver and conductor of the Welisara depot.

Army spokesperson Brig. Prasad Samarasinghe blamed the attack on the LTTE. It was carried out around 4.00 am this morning (6/6) and was triggered by remote control.

Brig. Samarasinghe said they had recovered two detonators with their codes and the remote control device used.

According to reports a bus carrying naval personnel was scheduled to leave at that time. The Navy website says the mine would have been planted late last night or earlier this morning.
