Sri Lanka’s new Air Marshall, follows in father’s foot steps [Tuesday , June 13, 2006- 9.00 GMT]The Sri Lanka Air Force’s new Commander Roshan Goonethilake, who assumed duties yesterday, said he would further modernize the force and vowed the SLAF would be ready to meet any emergency. Air Marhsall Goonethilake, whose father Harry Goonethilake was also one time Commander of the SLAF said he would continue the good work of his predecessors. His father Air Vice Marshall Harry Goonethilake, was the fifth commander of the air force which make them the first father and son duo in Sri Lanka to emerge from cadet-to-commander. The retired Air Vice Marshall was the chief of the air force from 1976 to 1981. His second son Shirantha Goonathilake was killed when an air force aircraft, which was piloted by him was shot down by the LTTE in 1995.
