The Government is committed to the CFA despite grave provocations and violations by the LTTE Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera told Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi yesterday.

Minister Samaraweera’s visit was in keeping with the longstanding tradition of India and Sri Lanka to share their perceptions concerning the peace process, says a communiqué from the High Commission of Sri Lanka in New Delhi.

Samaraweera said President Mahinda Rajapaksa had reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to a negotiated political solution based on democracy and human rights that meets the aspirations of all communities in Sri Lanka. He said the Government will also continue to take all measures necessary to protect the security of the people of the country while preserving the territorial integrity of the country.

The Minister also discussed with the Indian Prime Minister the current progress of the All Party Conference, including the appointment of a multi-ethnic committee of experts to develop the legal provisions, for the realization of President Rajapaksa’s vision of a negotiated political solution based on maximum devolution of power in an undivided Sri Lanka.

According to the Hindu, the Ministry of External Affairs said Dr. Singh conveyed to Mr. Samaraweera India's abiding commitment to the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka even while stressing that the legitimate aspirations of all sections be addressed expeditiously.

The Hindu further reports that the Sri Lankan FM met Indian Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
