The new website of the Media Centre for National Security www.nationalsecurity.lk will be a centre for journalists to obtain the right information on the security situation in the country. It is not a centre for censorship of news, but is intended to counter the systematic and well organized campaign of misinformation and disinformation being carried out by the LTTE with regard to the situation in the country. It will be a more effective method of keeping the media and the international community better informed about developments in Sri Lanka. The launch of this website was one more step in keeping to the commitment made by President Mahinda Rajapaksa when he took office to give the highest priority to protecting the interests of the 19.5 million people of the country and safeguarding all resources of the country. Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, Defence Spokesman of the Government, said so at the launch of the new website of the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) in Colombo today. The website was launched by Minister Rambukwella and the Secretary Defence, Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The new website, through the use of new communications technology for the purpose of keeping the media and the world better informed of developments in Sri Lanka, was further indication of the priority given by the President to solving the ethnic crisis, politically and also moving ahead to achieve peace in the country. Minister Rambukwella said that through the past 25 years the ethnic crisis had brought about the current tragic situation in the country, and it was the intention of the President to end this by removing all obstacles to carrying on with the with peace process. The speedy dissemination of proper information on the ethnic crisis and related issues was important to overcome the obstacles to peace faced through the systematic disinformation campaign being carried out against Sri Lanka, and the new website would help change this situation, the Minister said.
