Maximum security to be provided to schools

The Education Ministry and the Ministry of Defence have taken necessary steps to ensure the safety of all schools. The Education Ministry appeals to parents, to not be deceived by rumours and to instead aid school Principals in ensuring the smooth functioning of school activities.

The Education Ministry has not received information regarding threats to schools up to date. In a release the Ministry states that malicious rumours are spread to hinder the day to day activities of the public. Therefore the Ministry requests parents not to panic and avoid sending children to school.

Maximum security will be provided to schools during school hours (7.30 am - 1.30 pm) to ensure the safety of the children. Principals have already been educated on how to act during an emergency. The Ministry asks parents to refrain from keeping their children away from school, unless a child is genuinely sick.

The Education Ministry appeals to the parents and public to remain calm and aid the school system to function properly.
