Indian Foreign Secretary Saran in Sri Lanka for discussions [Monday, July 3, 2006 - 9.30 GMT]

Indian Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran arrived in Sri Lanka this afternoon. He was met at the airport by Sri Lanka’s Foreign Secretary H.M.G.S. Palihakkara.  Saran is due to hold talks with Palihakkara and others today on the latest situation in the country.

Last month Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera briefed India on the current situation of the peace process and stressed the government’s commitment to the CFA.

During Samaraweera’s visit India conveyed its abiding commitment to the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka, while stressing that the legitimate aspirations of all sections be addressed.
