LTTE fire at Army troop clearing patrol at Vakaneri

The LTTE this morning fired at an Army troop clearing patrol at Vakaneri in Batticoloa. VAKANERI is located 5 km south of the Polonnaruwa – Batticaloa road which is generally used by civilians and the Security Forces.

Four soldiers who sustained injuries during the small arms and mortar attack have been admitted to the Polonnaruwa hospital.

Army spokesperson Brig. Prasad Samarasinghe said latest reports from the area (4.30 pm) indicated that 13 soldiers were missing.
