Army bus hit by Claymore mine  [Wednesday, July 19, 2006 - 9.10 GMT]

Two Army officers and a soldier were killed today in an LTTE claymore mine attack on the bus they were traveling in around 11.05 am this morning, near Maradanamdam, Jaffna peninsula.

According to the Army, personnel in the Army bus were to board a homeward flight from Palaly Airport when the terrorists activated the claymore mine that had been tethered to a tree.

Army spokesperson Brig. Samarasinghe said that today was the weekly market day in the area and that the LTTE had not considered the civilians when carrying out the attack. He said three civilians, innocent bystanders, had been injured in the attack.
