Brig. Prasad Samarasinghe told PRIU today that a meeting had been held in Jaffna on Monday (17) with the participation of Security Forces Commanders, the Bishop, Government officials, Senior citizens, DIG and the AGA of the district. During the meeting a request was made for essential items and cement to be shipped to Jaffna. The main objective of this request was to reduce the prices of these goods, which become exorbitant when transported via the A9, since they are subjected to LTTE taxes. The Army spokesperson said the request would be channeled through the proper authorities.
