Army counter attack, LTTE mortar attacks on Kallar village [Friday, July 28, 2006 - 8.00 GMT]

The LTTE, this morning (around 7. 45 am) fired 81 mm mortars at the Kallar village in Trincomalee, targeting civilians. The village school was also deliberately targeted during the attack.

“Counter mortar attacks are still underway”, said Major Rajapaksa, who further said that the Army reported no injuries as yet.

He said the situation with the anicut closure remained the same.

Meanwhile a group from the SLMM is currently traveling to Sampur to meet with LTTE Political Wing Leader S P Thamilselvam regarding the situation, according to acting spokesperson Nilsson.
