Muslim govt. reps travel to Muttur  [Friday, August 4, 2006 - 9.15 GMT]

Muslim government representatives today traveled to Muttur to assess the situation and see to the relief needs of the displaced persons.

Due to continued heavy fighting in Muttur during the past few days the predominantly Muslim civilians of the area fled their homes. The LTTE Wednesday morning tried to capture the Muttur jetty and town. The Forces and the Police successful thwarted the attempt, though clearing operations are still underway.

The Government delegation comprised of A H M Fowzie, Minister of Railways and Transport, A L M Athaulla, Minister of Infrastructure Development and Fisheries Housing, A. Rished Bathiudeen, Minister of Resettlement, M S S Ameer Ali, Minister of Disaster Services, Anver Ismail, Minister of Irrigation and Niyaz, Divisional Secretary, Muttur.
