Sri Lankans return from Beirut [Friday, August 4, 2006 - 8.45 GMT]

Today 252 Sri Lankans returned to the island on a Qatar airlines flight, while yesterday 280 returned from Lebanon on a Middle Eastern airlines flight chartered by IOM. 

According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Himalee Arunathilaka another 250 are expected on Monday (7th). Till the 10^th of August Qatar airlines has given the use of its Airbus A 300 with a capacity of 250 passengers at a time, solely for the evacuation of Sri Lankans.

Israeli bombing of Beirut renewed on Thursday (3^rd).
