Bomb blast in Kollupitiya [Monday , August 14, 2006- 8.15 GMT]

A bomb exploded this afternoon (1.15 pm) near the Liberty Plaza roundabout. Reports so far indicate that seven persons have died due to the blast. Two bombs had been placed in a three wheeler, parked along a side road. According to the Centre for National Security the target was the High Commissioner of Pakistan.

The LTTE is suspected of carrying out the bombing though it is not confirmed as yet.
