A 15 kg claymore bomb was found in Borella this morning concealed amongst vegetables in a box on the back of a bicycle. The area around the busy town was cordoned off and people were evacuated from homes, shops and offices while the bomb squad diffused the bomb. An eyewitness trapped inside a bank close to the YMBA shopping complex in Borella told PRIU that a mobile phone was found near the water motor of the complex, by the complex security officers. He said the phone was later found to be the remote-control device to the bomb. The officer who found the device, Constable Ranasinghe, told The Associated Press at the scene that a grocery store owner noticed the abandoned bicycle and alerted police. The constable declined to give his first name. According to the Media Centre for National Security the bomb has been planted by the Tigers targeting a VIP traveling along this route.
