Air strikes carried out in Mullativu [Thursday, August 24, 2006 - 11.30 GMT]

The Air Force today carried out strikes on a sea tiger base in the Mullativu district, according to Military sources.

The Army reports of a tiger being killed by retaliatory fire by the troops at the Forward Defence Line (FDL) of Nawakkulam, about 2 km east of Omanthai, at about 11.30 this morning.

The LTTE had fired towards the FDL and immediately after fled the scene due to the retaliatory fire by the troops. A search was later conducted during which the body of the tiger, a communication set and a T-56 weapon was recovered.

Meanwhile, it is also reported that an aid worker named P. Lesley had been adducted and shot dead by the LTTE pistol gang near Thirukkovil Muneimoor Lagoon this morning. The assassins had stolen the victim’s motor bicycle.

The father of two was employed as an assistant storekeeper of the United Office Project Firm which a New Zealand funded Aid Agency working for the tsunami affected in Thirukkovil.
