Two police officers in Batticaloa shot at by LTTE cadres [Tuesday , September 12, 2006 - 11.30 GMT]

The LTTE shot and injured two police officers while they were traveling in a bus from Kalawanchikudi to Batticaloa around 10. 15 this morning, reports the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS).

The two seriously injured policemen were admitted to the Batticaloa hospital for treatment.

The MCNS also reports that three civilians and three police personnel were injured when the LTTE exploded a claymore mine targeting a police jeep in the Trincomalee town, around 11 this morning.

A further two more claymore mines weighing 10 kg’s each were recovered by Naval troops in Mannar, following a tip off by a civilian.
