Over 75% of displaced in Muttur resettled [Friday , September 08, 2006- 5.00 GMT]

The internally displaced persons (IDPs) moved into Kantale area following the major ethnic cleansing campaign enacted by the LTTE terrorists in Muttur are being resettled. The government says that 75% of the displaced in Muttur and its suburbs have returned to their home places. All necessary facilities are being provided to them under the " Jathika Saviya" program launched by the government.

The displaced have voluntarily agreed to move into their hometown as the Security Forces successfully eliminated the terrorist threat to the areas by capturing the LTTE strong holds in Sampur.

The government has provided 170 buses for the Depot at Kantale to facilitate transportation to the displaced. A large number of displaced are being transported to Muttur in these buses. Another group of IDPs are being sent by passenger vessels from Trincomalee to Muttur.

Medical clinics and specialist medical services are being provided for the benefit of the displaced.

A committee comprising of senior ministers have been appointed by the President to monitor the whole process.

Meanwhile, arrangements are made to provide dry rations to these people. A food consignment amounting 5.5 million rupees has been sent to Kinniya and another stock worth of 1.5 million rupees sent to Seruwila area.
