Troops consolidate position in Muhamale [Monday, September 11, 2006 -11.00 GMT ]

Troops are conducting search operations and continue to consolidate their position in Muhumale after advancing in the open terrain, ahead of the LTTE Forward Defence Line (FDL) with a view to neutralizing LTTE artillery and mortar fire said Military spokesman Brig. Prasad Samarasinghe.

He further said a huge haul of weaponry left behind by the LTTE when they fled the area was also found by the troops.

The Army actively supported by air cover of the Sri Lanka in their offensive confronted resisting enemy fire and went on taking enemy targets inflicting heavy damages and casualties to the enemy. The weekend confrontations resulted in the death of more than 130 Tiger terrorists and injured an equal number, reports the Army.
