Ampara, Panama: The LTTE this morning massacred 10 civilians and critically injured another. The 11 civilians, Muslims, had gone to repair a sluice gate in Raddella about 4 km from Sasthraweli. “It is confirmed that this was done by the LTTE”, Brig. Samarasinghe, Army spokesperson, told PRIU. “The injured civilian was rushed to the Kalmunai hospital, while the bodies were taken to the Pottuvil hospital”, he said. He further said the LTTE did not want the sluice gate repaired as the local community in the area, comprising mainly of Muslims and Tamils would have been supplied with water. July this year the LTTE closed the Mawil aru sluice gate that provided water to Seruwila, Muttur and Ichalampattu areas in the Trincomalee District. August 9, the troops successfully reopened the gate.
