COLOMBO: The special investigation team from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is probing the killing of 10 labourers who were hacked to death in Paanama on Monday, the Government said. Government Defence spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said it was too premature to come to a conclusion on the assassins. "We believe it is unfair to point fingers before a scientific analysis and investigations are complete," the Minister told reporters at the weekly security briefing yesterday. "But with our previous experience we can say there is an LTTE involvement," he said. One survivor out of the 11 workers admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Ampara Hospital was quoted as saying the killers were clad in shorts and were speaking in Tamil, the Minister said. The Minister said a complete statement will be taken from the survivor when he is in a better condition to give evidence. The bodies were buried in a nearby farming village. Questioned on the speedy removal of bodies the Minister said the investigators will look into every possible aspect. "If the removal of bodies were done intentionally to hurt the investigations we will not overlook it," he said. "The Government is committed to peace and we will not any one divert us from that path," the Minister said. Courtesy: Daily News
