President Mahinda Rajapaksa vehemently condemned and expressed his grave concern over the brutal killing of 10 Muslim civilians by the LTTE and the undesirable situation, precipitated thereafter in the area. The President, presently in New York on his visit to participate at the United Nations General Assembly, on hearing of the massacre immediately directed the authorities concerned to deploy a special team of CID officials to probe the incident. Also a team of top brass headed by the IGP, on the directions of the President has already left for Pottuvil to investigate into the situation resulting from the atrocities and to grant necessary relief to the families affected. The President has also directed the security forces to ascertain that law and order prevails in the area leaving no further room at all, for the terrorists to achieve their nefarious ends. Meanwhile, the President has requested the communities in the area to maintain peace and order and act with utmost restraint.
