Sri Lanka deposits ratifies Convention  [Wednesday, September 27, 2006 -9.20 GMT]

Sri Lanka yesterday deposited Instruments of Ratification effecting Sri Lanka’s accession to the Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime, and the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography, at the United Nations in New York.

Foreign Affairs Minister Mangala Samaraweera ratified the convention on behalf of Sri Lanka.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the convention on transnational organized crimes enables states and parties to cooperate with one another in investigating, prosecuting and punishing crimes committed by organized criminal groups where either the crimes or the groups who committed them have some element of transnational involvement.
