Sole survivor says LTTE carried out Pottuvil massacre [Friday, September 29, 2006 -10.15 GMT]

The sole survivor of the Pottuvil massacre Meera Mohideen Lebbe said that it was the LTTE that carried out the massacre. He said this while in conversation with Minister for Infrastructure, Development and Fisheries Housing A L M Athaulla and other Muslim representatives when they visited him at the Ampara hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

11 civilians, Muslims, had gone to repair a sluice gate in Raddella about 4 km from Sasthrawel, September 17, when the attack had taken place. They were found on Monday September 18. Meera Mohideen was in a critical condition at the time he was found with many cuts and stabs.

"When I saw them I realized that they were LTTE men", Meera Mohideen Lebbe is quoted as saying by the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS). He said the killers spoke Tamil fluently. He further said that Sinhalese cannot talk so fluently in Tamil and that the words they spoke confirmed they were LTTE terrorists.

“All the others died but I managed to escape because of God’s will. So I’m not lying” the MCNS quotes Mohideen as saying.
