Kfir jet crashed due to technical mishap
[Monday, October 16, 2006- 14.30 GMT]

The Kfir jet that crashed into the Negombo lagoon this evening had experienced technical difficulties said a spokesperson from the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS).

The pilot of the jet while trying to land at Katunayake had experienced vibrations after which he had called the tower with a distress signal. He had then directed the jet towards the lagoon to avoid causing casualties and was then ejected out of the jet.

“When a jet experiences technical problems it ejects the pilot automatically,” said the spokesperson, who further said the pilot was unharmed and safe.
