Government condemns brutal attack by the LTTE
[Tuesday, October 17, 2006- 8.30 GMT]

The Government yesterday vehemently condemned the brutal attack on a naval convoy, which targeted unarmed navy personnel, at the Digampathana transit camp, Dambulla, last afternoon. According to latest reports from the Media Centre for National Security the number of dead now lies at 98.

The GOSL in a release said the LTTE carrying out such an attack on the eve of the next round of peace talks clearly proved the ‘evil designs of the LTTE to sabotage the internationally backed peace process’ and expressed shock over the LTTE carrying out the attack in an area where civilians were present.

“The heinous act of the LTTE on unarmed men should be universally condemned. The peace facilitator, the co-chairs and the international community should take stock of the LTTE’s most brutal act at a time when the dates for the next round of peace talks and the venue has been decided’, states the Government release.
