Mob attack stories “completely false” says Military spokesman
[Wednesday, October 18, 2006 - 10.30 GMT]

Dismissing as “completely false” stories appearing on pro-LTTE websites regarding mob riots in Habarana and Galle, Military spokesman Brig. Prasad Samarasinghe said that a few shops in Galle had been stoned following this morning’s attack on the harbour, but that the Police had brought the situation under control.

He further said the situation in Galle was under control.

Meanwhile Defence spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella has confirmed that the Geneva talks are as scheduled. The Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) reports the Minister as saying that talks were to address the grievances of the people of the North and East.

He had further stressed that for the first time in history all political parties have fallen in line to address the North and East grievances and that this vital opportunity must not be lost.
