The third annual Sri Lanka Festival, held in Tokyo’s Yoyogi park, October 14-15, projected to the Japanese Sri Lanka’s multi-faceted attractions promoting Sri Lanka as an attractive destination for trade, investment and tourism. This year’s Festival attracted around 80,000- 100,000 visitors, both Japanese and foreign living in and around Tokyo and in other regions of Japan. It also provided the Japanese with the rare opportunity of experiencing a taste of Sri Lanka. The theme this year was ‘Capturing Nature’s Wonders’, and all the attractions at the event reflected what was ‘natural, beautiful and pure’ in Sri Lanka. The Festival was opened by Sri Lankan Ambassador in Japan Ranjith Uyangoda. Around 60 Japanese and Sri Lankan companies participated in the Festival with 80 booths selling a range of Sri Lankan products including Sri Lankan foods, pure Ceylon tea, crafts and costume jewelry among other items. The Festival was organized by the Sri Lankan Embassy in Tokyo in cooperation with Sri Lankan and Japanese organizations, companies, NGOs, Japan Sri Lanka Friendship Associations, Sri Lanka Business Council of Japan and the Sri Lanka Association of Japan, among others. SriLankan Airlines, Sri Lanka Tourist Board, Sri Lanka Tea Board, National Gem and Jewellery Authority also joined in organising the event.
