New flying squad to combat corruption in Railway Department [Friday, October 27, 2006 - 10.45 GMT]

Transport Minister A H M Fowzie has agreed to establish a new flying squad to eliminate corruption and inefficiency. The squad will be directly accountable to the Minister with employees of the Railway Department being recruited for the purpose.  

On a request made by a delegation of the Independent Railway Workers Union during a meeting yesterday the Minister agreed to pay special attention to the proposals submitted by the Union. 

  1. The adoption of a system procedure for Departmental purchases
     
  2. Recovery of all dues from those who are residing on Railway Department lands and work according to law with regard to Railway lands
     
  3. Establishing a formal committee to ascertain the situation of politically victimized employees and due promotions denied to them.
     
  4. Establishing a Emergency Inquiry Unit for the Railway Department
