A9 re-open impossible with intensified attacks by LTTE on FDLs- says Cabinet spokesman [Thursday, November 2, 2006 -10.00 GMT]

The LTTE is now reaping the effects of their deeds said Cabinet spokesman Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, referring to the closure of the A9. He said it was impossible for the A9 to be re-opened while the LTTE continued attacks in the North.

Addressing a weekly press briefing in Colombo on cabinet decisions the Minister said the LTTE had created the necessity for the road to be closed. He said by intensifying their attacks they were making it difficult for the government to re-open the road as it created conditions that were insecure.

The LTTE has intensified its attacks on the Muhamali Forward Defence Lines from early this week.

The Minister said despite these conditions the Government still provided all essential requirements to Jaffna.
